SECRETARY-GENERAL APPOINTS JOËL W. ADECHI OF BENIN AS DEPUTY


SPECIAL REPRESENTATIVE FOR ERITREA AND ETHIOPIA


The Secretary-General has decided to appoint Mr. Joël W. Adechi of Benin as his Deputy Special Representative for Eritrea and Ethiopia.


Ambassador Adechi has been serving as the Permanent Representative of Benin to the United Nations since September 1999, and has been his country’s representative to the Security Council.

FORMER PRIME MINISTER OF PORTUGAL, AS HIGH COMMISSIONER FOR REFUGEES


Secretary-General Kofi Annan today proposed to the General Assembly the appointment of António Manuel de Oliveira Guterres of Portugal as United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees for a term of three years effective 15 June 2005.
