SECRETARY-GENERAL COMMENDS FEDERAL REPUBLIC OF YUGOSLAVIA


FOR ARREST OF SLOBODAN MILOSEVIC


Following is a statement by United Nations Secretary-General Kofi Annan issued today in Nairobi, Kenya:


The arrest of Slobodan Milosevic is an important step in the process of healing after the tragic events in the Balkans since 1991.  I commend the authorities in the Federal Republic of Yugoslavia for this decisive action.

Following is the 30 March message of Secretary-General Kofi Annan to Yale University on the occasion of the dedication of a United Nations postal cancellation commemorating the 300th anniversary of the University’s founding:

Secretary-General Kofi Annan departed New York on Saturday, 24 March, arriving in Amman, Jordan, on Sunday night, to attend the Summit Meeting of the League of Arab States, which was due to begin on Tuesday, 27 March.
