COMMITMENT, DETERMINATION, COURAGE IN IMPLEMENTING ACCORD OVER LONG TERM

Following is the text of Secretary-General Kofi Annan’s message to the signing ceremony for the Comprehensive Peace Agreement in Sudan, in Nairobi, yesterday, 9 January 2005, as delivered by Jan Pronk, Special Representative of the Secretary-General for Sudan:

During a stopover in Frankfurt, Germany, en route to Jakarta, Indonesia, the Secretary-General was asked by CNN what was going “right” in the massive relief effort under way to assist the victims of the 26 December earthquake and resulting tsunami, or tidal wave, that affected countries from Indonesia to Somalia.

MARK KROEKER OF UNITED STATES APPOINTED CIVILIAN POLICE ADVISER

The Secretary-General today announced the appointment of Mark Kroeker of the United States as the new Civilian Police Adviser in the Department of Peacekeeping Operations.
