United Nations Conference to Negotiate Legally Binding Treaty Prohibiting Nuclear Weapons Will Hold Second Substantive Session, 15 June - 7 July

NEW YORK, 14 June (Office for Disarmament Affairs) — The second substantive session of the United Nations Conference to Negotiate a Legally Binding Instrument to Prohibit Nuclear Weapons, Leading towards Their Total Elimination will open in New York on 15 June, under the Presidency of Ambassador Elayne Whyte Gomez (Costa Rica).

Secretary-General Hails Central Asian Countries’ Adoption of Ashgabat Declaration, Efforts to Implement Global Counter-Terrorism Strategy in Region

ASHGABAT, 13 June (Department of Political Affairs) — United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres chaired a high-level Central Asian dialogue on implementing the United Nations Global Counter-Terrorism Strategy in that region today, as Ministers from Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan adopted a joint declaration on strengthening regional collaboration in countering terrorism.

Organization Releases Forty-Second Edition of ‘Basic Facts about the United Nations’ in Colour, Covering Global Activities Since 2014

The United Nations has released the forty-second edition of Basic Facts about the United Nations, covering significant developments in the Organization’s global activities since 2014, including the adoption and launch of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and its 17 Sustainable Development Goals.  The colour icons of the Sustainable Development Goals are featured in the publication.
