Following are UN Secretary-General António Guterres’ remarks to the Yemen Pledging Conference, in New York today:
The General Assembly, acting through its temporary silence procedure amid the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, adopted a resolution deciding to hold a special session in April 2021 on challenges and measures to prevent and combat corruption.
On 18 May, United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres appointed Charles Abani of Nigeria as the United Nations Resident Coordinator in Ghana, with the host Government’s approval.
On 20 May, United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres appointed Vincent Martin of France as the United Nations Resident Coordinator in Guinea, with the host Government’s approval.
On 11 May, United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres appointed Gustavo González of Argentina as the United Nations Resident Coordinator in the Philippines, with the host Government’s approval. He will also serve as Humanitarian Coordinator.

The Security Council in a 29 May videoconference meeting decided unanimously to maintain current troop and police ceilings of the African Union-United Nations Hybrid Operation in Darfur (UNAMID) until 3 June.
The Security Council decided unanimously to extend the mandate of the United Nations Assistance Mission for Iraq (UNAMI) until 31 May 2021, during a 29 May videoconference meeting.
The Security Council renewed until 31 May 2021 the arms embargo and targeted sanctions imposed on South Sudan, in a videoconference meeting on 29 May, while extending the mandate of the Panel of Experts tasked with overseeing those measures until 1 July 2021.
