SECRETARY-GENERAL APPALLED BY TERRORIST ATTACK IN CAIRO

19960418 The following statement was issued today by the Spokesman for Secretary- General Boutros Boutros-Ghali:

The Secretary-General is appalled by the terrorist attack in Cairo today, which killed 18 people and injured at least a dozen more. He condemns terrorism in all its forms and urges an end to wanton slaughter as means to achieve political ends.

GENEVA, 17 April (UN Information Service) -- Governments should be held accountable when human rights violations took place, and no screen of national sovereignty could prevent the international community from identifying abuses, the representative of the European Union told the Commission on Human Rights this morning.
