SECRETARY-GENERAL EXPRESSES CONCERN OVER SUDDEN OUTBREAK OF TENSION BETWEEN GREECE AND TURKEY

19960130 The following is a statement attributable to the Spokesman for the Secretary-General:

The Secretary-General is concerned by the sudden outbreak of tension between Greece and Turkey as a result of incidents in the neighbourhood of the uninhabited islet of Imia in the Aegean Sea.

COMMITTEE ON NON-GOVERNMENTAL ORGANIZATIONS TO CONSIDER RECOMMENDING WITHDRAWAL OF CONSULTATIVE STATUS FOR CERTAIN ORGANIZATIONS

The Committee on Non-Governmental Organizations this morning requested the Secretariat to provide a list of non-governmental organizations that had failed to submit their quadrennial reports for 1988 to 1991, so that the Committee might ask the Economic and Social Council to withdraw their consultative status.
