UNCITRAL HAILED IN SIXTH COMMITTEE FOR PROGRESS ON KEY TRADE LAW TEXTS SLATED FOR ADOPTION NEXT YEAR

As the Sixth Committee (Legal) took up the annual report of the United Nations Commission on International Trade Law (UNCITRAL), speakers this morning all pointed to the significant progress made in the Commission’s work on three key legal texts that are expected to be finalized during the next UNCITRAL session, in June 2000.

TALKS SCHEDULED IN BONN TO BUILD GLOBAL CONSENSUS FOR POST-2000 ACTION ON CLIMATE CHANGE

BONN, 11 October (United Nations Information Service) -- International efforts to tackle the problem of global climate change will continue at a major United Nations conference in Bonn, Germany, from 25 October to 5 November. Some 5,000 participants from 150 countries are expected to attend.

1999 UNITED NATIONS DISARMAMENT PROGRAMME OF FELLOWSHIPS STARTS THIRD SEGMENT TODAY IN NEW YORK

The third segment of the 1999 Disarmament Fellowship Programme starts today at United Nations Headquarters, for a period of three and a half weeks, with the participation of young diplomats from 26 Member States. The Programme began on 30 August in Geneva.
