SECRETARY-GENERAL EXPRESSES SYMPATHY TO GOVERNMENT AND PEOPLE OF UKRAINE FOLLOWING BARAKOV MINE ACCIDENT

The Secretary-General has learned of the tragic accident on Saturday in the Barakov mine in Ukraine, which has cost the lives of more than 80 workers. He wishes to convey his sympathies to the Government and people of Ukraine, and his deepest condolences to the families of the deceased.

The second periodic report submitted by the Republic of the Congo was outdated, one of the experts on the Human Rights Committee said this morning, as the Committee concluded consideration of that country’s compliance with the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights.
