I am pleased to announce that the proximity talks on Cyprus between Glafkos Clerides and Rauf Denktash will resume in Geneva on 5 July. They will be opened by the Secretary-General.

A debate over strategies to create jobs, reduce unemployment and promote workers rights will dominate the resumed negotiations that get under way today in preparation for the United Nations General Assembly special session on the follow- up to the 1995 World Summit for Social Development.
As the Committee on Non-Governmental Organizations concluded consideration of its methods of work this afternoon, it addressed the questions of deferrals of non- governmental organization (NGO) cases; monitoring the consultative relationship; quadrennial reports by NGOs, and strengthening the NGO Section of the Secretariat.
As the Committee on Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs) continued to review its working methods this morning, most speakers agreed that it was important to emphasize electronic means of communication with NGOs, taking into account the development of modern technology.
Four Member States -- Estonia, Hungary, Israel and the Philippines -- announced they would voluntarily increase their financial responsibility for peacekeeping missions, at a meeting of the Fifth Committee (Administrative and Budgetary) this morning. A fifth, Cyprus, made a similar announcement yesterday.
