UNITED NATIONS FLASH APPEAL LAUNCHED IN JAKARTA

JAKARTA, 6 January (OCHA) -- Today, the United Nations and its partners launched a Flash Appeal to respond to the urgent and immediate needs of the communities severely affected by the earthquake and tsunami that hit coastal areas in India, Indonesia, Sri Lanka, Thailand, and Maldives, as well as Myanmar, Seychelles, and Somalia, on 26 December 2004.

TSUNAMI DISASTER:  UNFPA APPEALS TO DONORS FOR $28 MILLION FOR WOMEN AND YOUTH

NEW YORK, 5 January (UNFPA) -- The United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA), is requesting approximately $28 million from donors to help meet urgent health, hygiene and protection needs for women and youth in Indonesia, Sri Lanka, and the Maldives, the three countries hardest hit by last week’s catastrophic earthquake and tsunami.
