GENEVA, 14 February (ILO) -- Despite robust economic growth, the global employment situation improved only slightly in 2004, with employment increasing and unemployment down marginally, the International Labour Office (ILO) said in its annual report, Global Employment Trends, released today.

PAKISTAN:  UN COUNTRY TEAM RESPONDS TO NATURAL DISASTERS


NEW YORK, 14 February (UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs) -- Heavy snowfall, torrential rains and burst dams have killed more than 300 people in Pakistan over the past two weeks.  Rain and snow continue to cause heavy damage in Pakistan’s northern areas, Azad Jammu and Kashmir, north-west frontier province (NWFP), Balochistan and parts of PunjabProvince.

BUNIA, 8 February (OCHA) -- Humanitarian organizations have begun the delivery of much-needed emergency assistance to the survivors of an attack on Tché, District of Ituri.  Over 10,000 people are now gathered in the area, seeking protection from further attacks by FNI militia.
