Secretary-General condemns Baghdad mosque bombings


The following statement was issued today by the Spokesman for Secretary-General Kofi Annan:


The Secretary-General condemns the deadly mosque bombings that took place today during prayer in Baghdad.  He conveys his deepest sympathy and condolences to the families of the victims.

SECRETARY-GENERAL APPOINTS JEAN DUSSOURD DEPUTY SPECIAL REPRESENTATIVE IN KOSOVO


The Secretary-General has appointed Jean Dussourd as his Deputy Special Representative in the United Nations Interim Administration Mission in Kosovo (UNMIK).  Mr. Dussourd will head the Police and Justice component (Pillar I) in UNMIK.

UN WELCOMES EGYPT’S DECISION TO WAiVE SURCHARGE FOR SHIPS

The United Nations welcomes Egypt’s recent decision to waive a new 25 per cent surcharge for all ships carrying military equipment through the Suez Canal destined for United Nations peacekeeping operations.
