SECRETARY-GENERAL NOMINATES KEMAL DERVIŞ OF TURKEY AS NEW ADMINISTRATOR


OF UNITED NATIONS DEVELOPMENT PROGRAMME


Secretary-General Kofi Annan today sent a letter to the President of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) Executive Board conveying his intention to request the General Assembly to confirm Kemal Derviş of Turkey as the new Administrator of the UNDP for a term of four years.

FLOODS HIT ETHIOPIA, SOMALIA


NEW YORK, 26 April (OCHA) -- In East Africa, heavy rains have caused severe flooding in Ethiopia and Somalia, and floods have not only led to deaths and displacement, but also to extensive damage to property and farmland, the Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) reported today.
