Ibrahim Dabbashi, Permanent Representative of Libya to the United Nations, was elected Chair of the First Committee (Disarmament and International Security) on 1 October.
John W. Ashe (Antigua and Barbuda) was elected President of the sixty-eighth session of the General Assembly on 14 June 2013, while serving as Permanent Representative to both the United Nations and the World Trade Organization since 2004.
The Security Council Committee pursuant to resolutions 1267 (1999) and 1989 (2011) concerning Al-Qaida and associated individuals and entities removed the name of the individual below from the Al-Qaida Sanctions List after concluding its consideration of a delisting request submitted through the Office of the Ombudsperson established pursuant to Security Council resolution 1904 (2009), and after considering the Comprehensive Report of the Ombudsperson on this delisting request.

On 30 September 2013, the United Nations-African Union Joint Task Force on Peace and Security held its seventh consultative meeting at United Nations Headquarters in New York, on the margins of the sixty-eighth session of the United Nations General Assembly. The United Nations Secretariat and African Union Commission were represented by senior officials from the two organizations.
