United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon today announced the appointment of Issaka Souna of Niger as Deputy Head of the United Nations Electoral Observation Mission in Burundi (MENUB). The Mission will be operational on 1 January 2015, immediately after the end of the mandate of the United Nations Office in Burundi, pursuant to S/RES/2137 (2014).

United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon announced today the appointment of Cassam Uteem of Mauritius as his Special Envoy and Head of the United Nations Electoral Observation Mission in Burundi (MENUB). MENUB was mandated by Security Council resolution 2137 (2014) adopted on 13 February, and will start its operations on 1 January 2015.

On 20 October 1943, 17 member nations established the United Nations War Crimes Commission to investigate and record the evidence of war crimes committed during the Second World War. For more than 70 years, access to those records has been restricted. They are now open to the public, following the release in July 2014 of a full copy of the archive to the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum.
