Fred Eckhard, Spokesman for the Secretary-General, informed correspondents at the start of today's briefing that the Special Representative of the Secretary-General on Afghanistan, Lakhdar Brahimi, who was briefing the Security Council, had been invited to talk to them afterwards.

At a Headquarters press conference Friday afternoon, Prime Minister Fatos Nano of Albania said his country has taken positive steps towards, not only recovering, but also building prosperity after a difficult period. Any resolution on Myanmar adopted by the General Assembly's current session should request Secretary-General Kofi Annan to invite countries that were friendly to that Member State to establish a formal consultative body that would recommend steps that would help the international community ensure the implementation of all previous Assembly resolutions on that country.
