Approves Cooperation Agreement with Law of the Sea Tribunal As It Concludes Fifty-second Session by Closing and Deferring Pending Items
BEIRUT, 4 August -- The President of the General Assembly, Hennadiy Udovenko (Ukraine), who is now visiting Lebanon on official invitation of the Lebanese Government, held on Tuesday, a series of meetings with the country's leadership.
The General Assembly this afternoon decided to continue its consideration of the Secretary-General's reform proposal on time limits on new initiatives at its fifty-third session.
The General Assembly decided to appropriate a total of $636.7 million gross ($611.7 million net) for peacekeeping operations for the period from 30 June 1998 to 1 July 1999, as it took action this morning on draft decisions and resolutions recommended by its Fifth Committee (Administrative and Budgetary).
The most effective way to contain the flow of drugs from poorer countries is to support their efforts towards sustainable economies, Ghana's Minister of the Interior told the General Assembly this afternoon as it continued its special session devoted to countering the world's drug problem together.
