"The Secretary-General is outraged by the news of a bomb blast today in the Sri Lankan capital, Colombo, which has killed and injured a large number of civilians, including children.

Fred Eckhard, Spokesman for the Secretary-General, began today's briefing by announcing that the Secretary-General had returned fully rested to the office today. He had immediately taken up the issue of Iraq, starting with an internal meeting at 9:30 a.m., followed by a meeting with Ambassador Nizar Hamdoon of Iraq at 11:30 a.m.

Fred Eckhard, Spokesman for the Secretary-General, began today's noon briefing by announcing that the Secretary-General went out of town late yesterday, where he would rest from his mission to Iraq. He was expected to remain there through the weekend; however, he would continue to monitor the Security Council's deliberations on Iraq.
