Special Committee on Decolonization Approves Text Reiterating Need for Talks as Only Way to Resolve Falkland Islands (Malvinas) Question

The Special Committee on Decolonization approved today a draft resolution on the question of the Falkland Islands (Malvinas), by which the General Assembly would reiterate that the way to end that “special and particular colonial situation” was through a peaceful and negotiated settlement of the sovereignty dispute between the Governments of Argentina and the United Kingdom.

Unanimously Adopting Resolution 2164 (2014), Security Council Extends Mandate of Multidimensional Integrated Stabilization Mission in Mali

The Security Council today extended the mandate of the United Nations Multidimensional Integrated Stabilization Mission in Mali (MINUSMA) until 30 June 2015, within the authorized troop ceiling of 11,200 military and 1,440 police personnel.

Security Council Extends Mandate of United Nations Disengagement Observer Force until 31 December, Adopting Resolution 2163 (2014)

The Security Council today extended the mandate of the United Nations Disengagement Observer Force (UNDOF) for six months, until 31 December 2014, requesting the Secretary-General to ensure that it had the required capacity and resources to fulfil its duties.

Economic and Social Council Adopts Resolution Urging Continuing Enhancement of United Nations Humanitarian Capacities

Concluding its three-day humanitarian affairs segment today, the Economic and Social Council adopted a consensus resolution that not only called upon the United Nations to continue enhancing its existing humanitarian capacities but also included new language addressing the frequently protracted nature of displacement resulting from complex crises and emergencies.
