The General Assembly adopted 59 resolutions and one decision recommended by its Third Committee (Social, Humanitarian and Cultural) today, covering a range of issues, from the rights of refugees and others forced to flee their homes, to the provision of universal and equitable access to COVID-19 vaccines.

As the world endeavours to recover from the COVID‑19 pandemic, without increased investment in development, political and peace missions will simply fail, delegates heard at a joint meeting of the Economic and Social Council and Peacebuilding Commission today.
The Economic and Social Council today elected a Vice-President for its 2022 session and countries to fill five outstanding vacancies in its subsidiary bodies. It also approved nominations for 24 experts to the Committee for Development Policy as well as two countries for the Committee for Programme and Coordination and adopted an oral decision relating to its 2022 agenda.
After unanimously adopting two draft resolutions pertaining to the Economic and Social Council and the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) today, the General Assembly also concluded its debate on equitable representation on and increase in the membership of the Security Council.
For Youth Day at the Glasgow Climate Change Conference, the Secretary-General’s Youth Advisory Group and young climate activists discussed how to include young people in formal decision-making processes. Indigenous youth leaders also shared on the importance of traditional knowledge as a vital component of climate action.
The Economic and Social Council today elected a Vice-President, adopted the agenda and assigned responsibilities for its 2022 session, while also taking action on decisions related to non-governmental organizations and geospatial information.
Poorer nations will feel the full brunt of COVID‑19 as the crisis continues, suffering from rising hunger, poverty and heightened inequities, a United Nations official said today at a joint meeting of the Second Committee (Economic and Financial) and the Economic and Social Council on productive capacities and the post-pandemic world.
The Committee on Non-Governmental Organizations concluded its 2021 session today, approving, as orally amended, the report of its resumed session containing seven draft decisions on matters calling for action by the Economic and Social Council, among them, dates for the accreditation body’s 2022 session.
