SECRETARY-GENERAL PROPOSES APPOINTMENT OF SUPACHAI PANITCHPAKDI,


CURRENTLY WTO DIRECTOR-GENERAL, AS HEAD OF UNCTAD


Secretary-General Kofi Annan today proposed, for confirmation by the General Assembly, the appointment of Supachai Panitchpakdi of Thailand as Secretary-General of the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD) for a term of four years, beginning on 1 September 2005 and ending on 31 August 2009.

SECRETARY-GENERAL APPOINTS JEAN DUSSOURD DEPUTY SPECIAL REPRESENTATIVE IN KOSOVO


The Secretary-General has appointed Jean Dussourd as his Deputy Special Representative in the United Nations Interim Administration Mission in Kosovo (UNMIK).  Mr. Dussourd will head the Police and Justice component (Pillar I) in UNMIK.

SECRETARY-GENERAL APPOINTS DAVID VENESS OF UNITED KINGDOM

 

AS UNDER-SECRETARY-GENERAL FOR SAFETY AND SECURITY

 


The Secretary-General today announced the appointment of David Veness of the United Kingdom as Under-Secretary-General for Safety and Security.  He has been serving as Assistant Commissioner, Specialist Operations in the Metropolitan Police Service in London since April 1994.
