United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon today announced the appointment of Karin Landgren ( Sweden) as his new Special Representative and Head of the United Nations Office in Burundi (BNUB). The Secretary-General is grateful to Charles Petrie for his service to the Organization, and for his commitment in leading the United Nations Integrated Office in Burundi (BINUB) at a critical period as Executive Representative.

United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon has decided to appoint Major General Raul Gloodtdofsky Fernandez of Uruguay as Chief Military Observer and Head of the United Nations Military Observer Group in India and Pakistan (UNMOGIP). He will replace Major General Kim Moon Hwa of the Republic of Korea, who completed his assignment on 27 November.

United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon today announced the appointment of Robert Watkins of Canada as Deputy Special Coordinator for Lebanon, where he will also serve as the United Nations Resident Coordinator and United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) Resident Representative. The new Deputy Special Coordinator succeeds Marta Ruedas of Spain, who will complete her assignment at the end of the year.

United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon has appointed Yukio Takasu of Japan as Special Adviser on Human Security. Mr. Takasu has played a pivotal role in advancing a greater understanding on the notion of human security, both within the United Nations and outside, for more than 10 years. In 2006, Mr. Takasu initiated the formation of the Friends of Human Security, an informal network to follow up the 2005 United Nations Summit Outcome document.

United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon announced today the appointments of Brice Lalonde of France and Elizabeth Thompson of Barbados as the Executive Coordinators for the United Nations Conference on Sustainable Development. The General Assembly, by its resolution 64/236, decided to convene the Conference at the highest possible level, including Heads of State and Government,.

United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon has appointed Major General Muhammad Khalid of Pakistan as the Force Commander of the United Nations Mission in Liberia (UNMIL). Major General Khalid will replace Lieutenant General Sikander Afzal of Pakistan, whose tour of duty ends on 28 November. The Secretary-General is grateful to Lieutenant General Afzal for his contribution to the work of UNMIL.
