New Permanent Representative of Syrian Arab Republic Presents Credentials

The new Permanent Representative of the Syrian Arab Republic to the United Nations, Koussay Aldahhak, presented his credentials to UN Secretary-General António Guterres today.

Prior to his appointment, he was Director and Head of the Department of International Organizations and Conferences in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates in Damascus from October 2022 to December 2023, a post he also held from September 2016 to August 2018.

He was posted in New York as Deputy Permanent Representative of the Syrian Arab Republic to the United Nations from August 2020 to September 2022 and as Minister Counsellor in his country’s Mission from August 2018 to August 2020.

From September 2012 to August 2016, he was Counsellor/First Secretary at the Permanent Mission to the United Nations in New York, after having served as First/Second Secretary in the Minister’s Office, of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates in Damascus, Syrian Arab Republic, from August 2009 to August 2012.

In August 2004, he was appointed as Second/Third Secretary at the Embassy of the Syrian Arab Republic in Beijing, China ‑ a post he retained until August 2009.

Mr. Aldahhak entered the foreign service in November 2001 as a Third Secretary/Attaché in the Department of International Organizations of the foreign affairs ministry.

He obtained a master’s degree in international law and international relations from the Faculty of Law, University of Algiers in Algeria.  He is fluent in Arabic, English and French.
