Secretary-General Congratulates States Parties to Treaty on Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons on Successful Conclusion of Meeting

The following statement was issued today by the Spokesman for UN Secretary-General António Guterres:

The Secretary-General congratulates States parties to the Treaty on the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons on the successful conclusion of their second Meeting, which took place from 27 November to 1 December at the United Nations Headquarters in New York.

The Secretary-General is encouraged by the work done by States parties in collaboration with other stakeholders, which showcases what is possible within multilateral nuclear disarmament negotiations and bolsters the global disarmament and non-proliferation architecture. He welcomes the adoption of the political declaration, contributing towards our shared goal of a world free of nuclear weapons.
