United Nations Commends São Tomé and Príncipe on Peaceful Elections

The following statement was issued today by the Spokesperson for UN Secretary-General António Guterres:

The United Nations congratulates the Government and people of the Democratic Republic of São Tomé and Príncipe on the peaceful conduct of the legislative, regional and local elections on 25 September and the tabulation of results, which is a testament to the country’s strong democratic tradition.

The United Nations calls on all stakeholders to maintain a peaceful environment and looks forward to the completion of the electoral process through legal, inclusive and transparent procedures.

The United Nations will continue to support São Tomé and Príncipe in its efforts towards sustainable peace and development in the country.
