Secretary-General Condemns Convoy-Attack Killings in Mali, Warning Attacks against Peacekeepers May Constitute War Crimes

The following statement was issued today by the Spokesman for UN Secretary-General António Guterres:

The Secretary-General condemns the attacks carried out today against a convoy of the United Nations Multidimensional Integrated Stabilization Mission in Mali (MINUSMA).  The attack resulted in the deaths of two peacekeepers and seriously injured two others.

The Secretary-General extends his condolences to the families and loved ones of the victims and wishes the injured a speedy recovery.

The Secretary-General recalls that attacks against peacekeepers may constitute war crimes under international law.
