New Permanent Observer for International Renewable Energy Agency Presents Letter of Appointment

The new Permanent Observer for the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA), Yera Ortiz de Urbina, presented her letter of appointment to UN Secretary-General António Guterres today.

Before her latest appointment, Ms. Ortiz was IRENA’s Deputy Permanent Observer at the United Nations in New York since 2014.  Prior to joining the Agency, she served at the Permanent Missions of Spain and the European Union to the United Nations, where she was responsible for the sustainable development portfolio.

Ms. Ortiz also served as Chargé d’affaires in Iraq and Jordan, and at the European Commission in Brussels, Belgium.  With more than 15 years of international experience, her focus is multilateral affairs and development.

She holds a master’s degree from the College of Europe in Bruges, Belgium.

Born in Spain, Ms. Ortiz is married and has two children.
