New Permanent Representative of Benin Presents Credentials

The new Permanent Representative of Benin to the United Nations, Jean-Claude F. do Rego, presented his credentials to UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon today.
Until his latest appointment, Mr. do Rego served as the Deputy Representative of the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) in Ethiopia. He also served in a number of other senior-level positions within UNHCR, including as Regional Representative for West Africa between 2012 and 2015.
Mr. do Rego was based at UNHCR headquarters in Geneva from 2005 to 2012, covering the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Cameroon, Congo, Central African Republic, Gabon, Rwanda, Burundi and United Republic of Tanzania. Prior to that post, he also served in Kenya, Liberia and Serbia.
From 2002 to 2005, Mr. do Rego worked for the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in the area of technical cooperation among developing countries, serving as Regional Coordinator for South-South Cooperation in Africa.
He holds a doctorate degree and a Diplôme Supérieur do Gestion de l’Université de Paris 1 Panthéon-Sorbonne, as well as a master’s degree in economic sciences from the Dakar University.
Born in 1960 in Dakar, he is married and has three children.
