New Permanent Representative of Sierra Leone Presents Credentials

The new Permanent Representative of Sierra Leone to the United Nations, Adikalie Foday Sumah, presented his credentials to UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon today.

From 2009 to his latest appointment, Mr. Sumah was Sierra Leone’s Ambassador to Guinea, Mali and Niger, having served concurrently, from 2012, as Dean of the Diplomatic Corps in Guinea and Dean of the African and Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) Diplomatic Groups.

Between 2005 and 2007, as a civil servant in the United Kingdom, he served as Administrative Officer in the Department for Constitutional Affairs in the Asylum and Immigration Tribunal (Appellate) Division.  From 2003 to 2004, he was a researcher in the Office of National Statistics, Department of the Registrar-General, in London.

An experienced lawyer, Mr. Sumah was proprietor and executive director/legal advisor with African Community Legal Advisors, having previously worked, between 1997 and 2002, as an associate solicitor and legal representative at Markandan & Co. Solicitors in London.

Mr. Sumah holds Bachelor and Master of Laws degrees from the University of East London.  Born on 23 May 1960, he is married and has three children.
