New Permanent Representative of Oman Presents Credentials

The new Permanent Representative of Oman to the United Nations, Khalifa bin Ali Issa Al-Harthy, presented his credentials to UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon today.

From 2009 until his latest appointment, Mr. Al-Harthy served as his country’s Ambassador to Egypt and its Permanent Representative to the Arab League.  At the same time, he served as Non-Resident Ambassador to Cyprus.

A career diplomat, Mr. Al-Harthy also served as Oman’s Ambassador to Germany from 2005 to 2009, concurrently holding the position of Non-Resident Ambassador to Switzerland, Poland, Sweden, Norway, Denmark, Finland and Iceland.  From 1998 to 2005, he was his country’s Ambassador to India and its Non-Resident Ambassador to Sri Lanka, Maldives, Nepal, Singapore, Seychelles and Mauritius.

He has also held various Government posts in Oman, including with the Office of the Advisor to the Sultan for Economic Affairs from 1997 to 1998 and the Economic and Technical Cooperation Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs from 1996 to 1997.

Mr. Al-Harthy holds a master’s degree in international and diplomatic studies from London University and a bachelor’s degree in international relations from the American International University in the United Kingdom.

Born on 21 August 1963, he is married and has four children.
