New Permanent Representative of Papua New Guinea Presents Credentials

The new Permanent Representative of Papua New Guinea to the United Nations, Max Hufanen Rai, presented his credentials to UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon today.

Prior to his latest appointment, Mr. Rai was the Directory-General of the Trade Division in his country’s Department of Trade, Commerce and Industry from 2014 to 2016, having previously served as First Secretary and Adviser to the Minister for Mining and Statutory Body from 2013.

Mr. Rai was Ambassador to China from 2003 to 2007, and Roving Ambassador to the Federated States of Micronesia and the Marshall Islands from 1997 to 2003.

The holder of a graduate degree in international law from the Australian National University in Canberra, he also earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Papua New Guinea.

Born on 15 January 1954, he is married and has six children.
