New Permanent Observer for Organization of American States Presents Letter of Appointment

The new Permanent Observer for the Organization of American States (OAS) to the United Nations, Gonzalo Koncke, presented his letter of appointment to UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon today.
In the course of a diplomatic career that began in 1993, Mr. Koncke served most recently as Permanent Representative of Uruguay to the United Nations in New York between January 2014 and December 2015.
Mr. Koncke served in various other capacities, including Secretary General in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs beginning in 2011. Prior to that, he headed the Ministry’s International Economic Affairs Department from 2010 to 2011. He served as Consul-General in Spain between 2004 and 2009.
Mr. Koncke holds a bachelor’s degree in international relations from Universidad de la República in Montevideo, Uruguay.
He was born in Montevideo on 27 May 1970.
