Secretary-General, in Video Message, Applauds Mongolia’s Twenty-Fifth Anniversary of Transitioning to Democracy

Following is the text of UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon’s video message on the anniversary of Mongolia’s democratic transition, observed 29-30 July 2015:

Your Excellency, Mr. Elbegdorj Tsakhia, President of Mongolia, Excellencies, distinguished guests, ladies and gentlemen, I am proud to join you in celebrating the twenty-fifth anniversary of Mongolia’s transition to democracy.  I commend the Mongolian people for your determination and contribution to your country’s democratic path.  I saw some of that progress during my unforgettable visit to Mongolia in 2009.

I am pleased that you are making the most of this milestone by further strengthening institutions and finding ways to enhance the country’s governance, elections and economy.  I encourage Mongolia to continue to be a champion for democracy and human rights worldwide.

Once again, thank you for your leadership.  I look forward to your continued efforts to consolidate democracy and advance peace, development and human rights.  “Bai-YER-La” [thank you].
