New Permanent Representative of Malaysia Presents Credentials

The new Permanent Representative of Malaysia to the United Nations, Ramlan Bin Ibrahim, presented his credentials to Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon today.

Prior to his appointment, Mr. Ibrahim was Deputy Secretary-General in the Department of Bilateral Affairs of his country’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs.  From 2009 to 2013, he was Malaysia’s Ambassador to the Republic of Korea.

Throughout the course of a diplomatic career that began in 1983, Mr. Ibrahim held senior positions in the Ministry’s Americas and South East Asia divisions from 2006 to 2007, after having served as Ambassador to Bosnia and Herzegovina for two years.

Between 1988 and 2001, Mr. Ibrahim held tenures at his country’s missions in Indonesia, the Netherlands, Croatia and Singapore, as well as in the Western Europe and South East Asia divisions of the Ministry.  He joined the administrative and diplomatic service of Malaysia in 1983.

He has a bachelor’s degree in science from University Kebangsaan Malaysia and a master’s degree in international relations from Webster University in the United States.

Born in 1957, Mr. Ibrahim is married with two children.
