New Permanent Representative of Pakistan Presents Credentials

The new Permanent Representative of Pakistan to the United Nations, Maleeha Lodhi, presented her credentials to UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon today.

Prior to her appointment, Ms. Lodhi was Special Adviser on International Affairs to the Geo/Jang Group in Pakistan.  Between 2008 and 2010 she was a fellow at Harvard’s Institute of Politics and an international scholar at the Woodrow Wilson Center in Washington, D.C.

From 2003 to 2008, Ms. Lodhi served as her country’s High Commissioner to the United Kingdom.  Before that, she held two terms as Pakistan’s Ambassador to the United States (1999-2002 and 1993-1996).  She was the founding editor of The News daily in Pakistan.

Ms. Lodhi, who holds a doctorate in politics from the London School of Economics and Political Science, has written two books and edited one volume on Pakistan’s political and foreign affairs.

Among other activities, she has taught politics at the London School of Economics and Political Science, and has served as a member of the United Nations Secretary-General’s Advisory Board on Disarmament Matters (2001-2005).

Ms. Lodhi was born in Lahore, Pakistan, in 1952.
