Activities of Secretary-General in Guinea, 20 December
On Saturday, 20 December, United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon flew to Conakry, Guinea, the third leg of his visit to Ebola-affected countries in West Africa.
Upon arrival, he met with Ebola response partners and United Nations staff, after unveiling a memorial plaque for Marcel Rudasingwa, the Ebola Crisis Manager for Guinea who recently passed away.
The Secretary-General then met with President Alpha Condé of Guinea, reiterating the dangers of complacency and making a renewed call for action, focusing on social mobilization and community engagement.
Following that meeting, he held a joint press conference with President Condé, where he stressed that it was never too early to start planning for post-Ebola recovery, with the support of the United Nations.
The two leaders then visited together an Ebola treatment unit established by France that will open mid-January in Conakry.
In the afternoon, the Secretary-General left Conakry for Bamako, Mali.
