Activities of Secretary-General in Liberia, 19 December

On Friday 19 December, United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon flew to Monrovia, Liberia, the first leg of his visit to Ebola-affected countries in West Africa.  Upon arrival, he met with Ebola response partners and United Nations staff working in the country.

The Secretary-General also held talks with President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf, praising the achievements made in Liberia to date and stressing the importance of remaining vigilant until the very last case has been treated.

During a joint press briefing with President Johnson Sirleaf, he said the United Nations had stood with the Liberian people through challenging times before, and were committed to stand with them to face this merciless threat.

After visiting Monrovia’s Medical Unit the Secretary-General left in the afternoon for Freetown, Sierra Leone.
