Secretary-General, in Video Message, Applauds Peace Orchestra Concerts for Uniting People, Inspiring All to Work towards World Free of Conflict, Intolerance

Following is the text of UN Secretary‑General Ban Ki‑moon’s video message to the Orchestra for Peace concerts in The Hague, to be held 3–4 December:

Excellencies, distinguished guests, ladies and gentlemen,

I am delighted that this wonderful programme of concerts in celebration of peace is taking place.  I thank the Music for Hope International Federation for organizing these events, which are especially welcome at a time when the world faces multiple crises and immense humanitarian suffering.  I thank Goodwill Ambassador Miguel Angel Estrella and the Orchestra for Peace for giving these performances as the United Nations marks Human Rights Day.

The venues for these concerts in The Hague — including the world renowned Peace Palace, home of the International Court of Justice — have long promoted universal values such as justice, equality, peace and human dignity.  The Orchestra for Peace shows how music, and the musicians who play it, can unite people.  Their rich mix of backgrounds, nationalities, cultures and beliefs not only bring us together, but inspire us to work for a world free of conflict and intolerance.

I wish you all an enjoyable concert.  Merci.  Thank you.
