Secretary-General Appoints Anthony Banbury of United States
Deputy Ebola Coordinator and Operation Crisis Manager
Following the appointment on 12 August of Dr. David Nabarro as Senior United Nations System Coordinator for Ebola, Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon announced today the appointment of Anthony Banbury (United States) as Deputy Ebola Coordinator and Operation Crisis Manager, operating from the United Nations Operations Crisis Centre.
Mr. Banbury and Dr. Nabarro will work closely with Dr. Margaret Chan and the World Health Organization in managing the overall response to the Ebola crisis. Specifically, he will coordinate the operational work of the United Nations System, Member States, non-governmental organizations and other stakeholders under a single platform. His focus will be to ensure operationalization of the United Nations overall response plan, working closely with the various response actors in the region. Mr. Banbury has served as Assistant Secretary-General for Field Support since June 2009.
The Secretary-General has requested that Ameerah Haq, Under-Secretary-General for Field Support, postpone her departure from the United Nations, given the severity of the crisis, and she has graciously agreed.
