Independent Audit Advisory Committee Concludes Twenty-First Session
The Independent Audit Advisory Committee of the United Nations held its twenty-first session from 4 to 6 February 2013. The session, which was held at the United Nations Headquarters in New York, was presided over by the Chairman, J. Christopher Mihm. All the other members of the Advisory Committee, namely Vadim V. Dubinkin (Vice-Chairman), Vinod Rai, John F.S. Muwanga and Adrian P. Strachan, were in attendance.
The Independent Audit Advisory Committee’s deliberations included inter-alia meetings with:
1. Yukio Takasu, the Under-Secretary-General for Management, on: the major highlights of the accountability system in the United Nations; how the Advisory Committee’s recommendations in its annual report (document A/67/259) will influence Department of Management progress in implementing the accountability resolution.
2. Carman Lapointe, Under-Secretary-General, and senior managers of the Office of Internal Oversight Services, regarding a wide range of matters, including: (i) operational constraints, if any; (ii) the status of vacant posts; (iii) update on the report requested by the General Assembly on funding arrangement; (iv) follow-up on the issues that arose in the course of the year including the complaint from International Trade Centre regarding audit and investigation functions of the Office; (v) any issues of high risk that may require the IAAC’s attention; and (vi) updated status of all outstanding recommendations.
3. Gina Casar, Assistant Secretary-General, Controller, on: the status of implementation of International Public Sector Accounting Standards (IPSAS), and the Office of Internal Oversight Services’ proposed budget for the support account for the period 1 July 2013 to 30 June 2014.
The next (twenty-second) session of the Independent Audit Advisory Committee is scheduled for 10-12 April 2013 at United Nations Headquarters in New York.
