Secretary-General Appoints Nicholas Haysom of South Africa Deputy Special
Representative for United Nations Assistance Mission in Afghanistan
The Secretary-General has decided to appoint Nicholas Haysom of South Africa as Deputy Special Representative of the Secretary-General (Political) for the United Nations Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA). Mr. Haysom will bring to this position over 30 years of professional experience in conflict resolution and human rights both at Headquarters and in the field. He has been intimately involved with the issues related to Afghanistan, which he has followed from the Secretary-General’s office, and gained regional perspective through his service in the United Nations mission in Iraq.
