Secretary-General Calls for End to Violence between Two South Sudan Communities


The following statement was issued on 28 December by the Spokesperson for UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon:


The Secretary-General is deeply concerned about tensions in South Sudan between the Lou Nuer and Murle communities.


The Secretary-General commends the Government’s efforts to calm the situation and ensure that vulnerable civilians are protected.


The Secretary-General calls on the leadership of both groups to cease violence and to work with the Government towards a long-term solution to the root causes of the hostilities.
