New Permanent Representative of Singapore Presents Credentials

The new Permanent Representative of Singapore to the United Nations, Albert Chua, presented his credentials today to UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon.

Mr. Chua has served as Singapore’s High Commissioner to Australia since 2008.  He first joined the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Singapore in 1992, serving as Deputy Trade Representative in Taipei (1994-1997).  He also served as Deputy Director of Policy Planning and Analysis for the North America and Europe Directorate and later as Senior Deputy Director for the Northeast Asia, Australia, New Zealand and Pacific Directorate.  In 1998, he was promoted to serve as Director of that regional Directorate.

In addition to holding that position, in 2000, Mr. Chua was appointed Director of Singapore’s International Economics Directorate.  In 2001, he was made Deputy Secretary of Policy, and, in 2004, became the Principal Private Secretary to then-Prime Minister Goh Chok Tong.  Mr. Chua then assumed the appointment of Deputy Secretary of Special Duties in the Singapore Ministry of Foreign Affairs, a post which he held from 2007 until 2008.

Mr. Chua has served on the Singapore National Heritage Board, the National Arts Council and the Singapore Management University’s Board of Trustees.

He holds a master’s degree in public administration from the Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University (2000).

Born in Singapore in 1968, Mr. Chua is married with one daughter.
