New Head of International Committee of Red Cross Delegation
Presents Appointment Letter

The new Head of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) delegation to the United Nations in New York, Walter A. Füllemann, today presented his letter of appointment to UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon.
Prior to his appointment, Mr. Füllemann was based for 10 years at ICRC headquarters in Geneva, and served most recently as the ICRC Deputy Director of Operations (2002-2009). Earlier, he was Deputy Head of the External Resources Division, focusing on donor relations and fundraising, and prior to that, he was head of the operational desk for the former Yugoslavia (1995-1996).
With the ICRC since 1989, Mr. Füllemann also served in several field missions, including in Nicaragua (1989-1990), Peru (1991), South Africa (1992-1994), as well as Croatia and Bosnia and Herzegovina (1994-1995). He subsequently served as Head of the ICRC delegation in Baku, Azerbaijan (July 1996-July 1997).
Mr. Füllemann received a master’s degree in international relations in 1988 from the University of Saint Gallen in Switzerland.
He was born on 25 May 1962 in Bogota, Colombia.
