Biographical Note

New Permanent Representative of Kenya Presents Credentials

The new Permanent Representative of Kenya to the United Nations, Zachary Dominic Muburi-Muita, presented his credentials to UN Secretary-General Kofi Annan today.

Prior to his new appointment, Mr. Muburi-Muita was High Commissioner (Ambassador) to the United Republic of Tanzania, where he was posted, after serving during 2004, as Principal Counsellor at the Kenya Embassy in Israel.  From 2002 to 2003, he was Head of the Middle East Division at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, having been promoted in December 2002 to Principal Counsellor with the rank of Deputy Secretary.

In 2002, Mr. Muburi-Muita served as Head of the Americas Division at the level of Under-Secretary/Second Counsellor.  Between 1998 and 2002, he was seconded to the faculty of the National Defense College.  He was previously a Senior Assistant Secretary and Acting Head of the Asia and Australasia Division.  From 1992 to 1997, he was First Secretary at the Kenya Embassy in the Netherlands.

From 1989 to 1992, Mr. Muburi-Muita served as Assistant Secretary in the Ministry’s Protocol Division and the Asia and Australasia Division, before which he was Third Secretary at the Kenya Embassy in Sudan between 1984 and 1989.  He was Assistant Secretary in the Middle East Division and the Americas Divisions from 1982 to 1984.

Mr. Muburi-Muita was educated at the University of Nairobi, the University of Khartoum and Oxford University.

Born in June 1957, he is married and has three children.
