Biographical Note


New Permanent Representative of Kyrgyzstan Presents Credentials

Nurbek Jeenbaev, the new Permanent Representative of Kyrgyzstan to the United Nations, presented his credentials to Secretary-General Kofi Annan today.


Prior to his appointment, Mr. Jeenbaev worked for the External Policy Department in the Office of his country’s President, first as a Referent (June 2002-May 2003), and then as an Expert (May 2003-July 2004).  Before his appointment there, he was Head of the International Security Department of the Foreign Ministry of the KyrgyzRepublic (2002); and Minister-Counsellor at his country’s Embassies in the United States and Canada (1998-2001).


Mr. Jeenbaev started his diplomatic career in 1995 as a First Secretary at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Kyrgyzstan, where he later became Deputy Head and Head of the International Organizations Department.


Prior to that, he worked as a Researcher at the Institute of Physics, National Academy of Sciences of the KyrgyzRepublic (1990-1995) and as a Laboratory Assistant and Junior Science Researcher at KyrgyzStateUniversity (1984-1990).  He has produced 19 scientific articles and three publications on diplomacy.


Mr. Jeenbaev has a master’s degree in physics from the KyrgyzStateUniversity (1984), where he also received a PhD in Theoretical Physics in 1990.


Born in Bishkek city on 5 February 1962, he is married, with two daughters and a son.
