UNITED NATIONS WORLD TV FORUM AVAILABLE THROUGHOUT EUROPE VIA EUTELSATS HOT BIRD 5 SATELLITE
19991208The proceedings of this years United Nations World Television Forum, entitled Mirror or Map? The Impact of Television on Peace and Development, are being broadcast by EUTELSAT, The European Telecommunications Satellite Organization, throughout the month of December on its HOT BIRD 5 satellite. The EUTELSAT, one of the worlds largest satellite operators, is making the broadcast available to satellite viewers throughout Europe.
This was the fourth consecutive year that the Forum, which took place at United Nations Headquarters on 18 and 19 November, brought together senior leaders from the television and broadcasting industries world wide to reflect on how television, one of the centurys most pervasive inventions, is being used in the service of humankind. This year, the Forum focused specifically on television programming and its evolving role in support of the central mission of the United Nations the peace and development of the human family.
The EUTELSATs special broadcast, which will last until the end of the year, is being uplinked to Hot Bird 5s on-board multiplexing facility, SKYPLEX. It can be received by DVB IRDs on downlink frequency: 12.539 GHz, horizontal polarization, symbol rate 27.5, FEC ¾.
The Forum was organized by the United Nations Department of Public Information (DPI), with the support of the Permanent Missions of Italy and Japan to the United Nations. Sponsoring partners of the Forum were RAI-Radiotelevisione Italiana; Mediaset Group; WBU-World Broadcasting Unions; The International Council of NATAS National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences; NHK; and Friedrich Ebert Stiftung and EUTELSAT. TV5le Monde en Français, and TGRT Turkey co-sponsored the event.
