The following was issued today by the Spokesman for Secretary-General Boutros Boutros-Ghali:

At 4 p.m. Friday, 20 October, the Secretary-General met the President of Finland, Martti Ahtisaari. The Secretary-General thanked the President for his support and presence in New York to attend the Special Commemorative Session of the General Assembly marking the fiftieth anniversary of the United Nations.

The Secretary-General and President Ahtisaari reviewed the financial crisis of the United Nations.

11 a.m. Prime Minister of Israel, Yitzhak Rabin; 12:30 p.m. Prime Minister of Sweden, Ingvar Carlsson; 3:45 p.m. President of Zaire, Mobuto Sese Seko; 5:30 p.m. President of Finland, Martti Ahtisaari; and 6 p.m. President of Botswana, Sir Ketumile Masire.

QUESTIONS OF STATE RESPONSIBILITY AND CONCEPT OF STATE CRIMES REMAIN BEFORE SIXTH COMMITTEE

19951020 Australia Calls for Inclusion of Internal Armed Conflicts in Draft Code of Crimes

The right to undertake countermeasures and various methods of dispute settlement were discussed this afternoon as the Sixth Committee (Legal) continued discussing State responsibility and the concept of State crimes.

19951020 ROME, 19 October (FAO) -- Two radio and print journalists, Fawzia El- Moualled from Egypt and Michael Pickstock from the United Kingdom, were the joint winners of the A.H. Boerma Award for outstanding reporting on development issues, the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organizations (FAO) announced today.

FAO also honoured two field experts, Seiichi Etoh from Japan and Roberto Samanez-Mercado from Peru, with the B.R. Sen Award for outstanding work in field activities.
