ENACTMENT OF MARRIED PERSONS EQUALITY ACT IN NAMIBIA PRAISED BY EXPERTS OF WOMEN'S ANTI-DISCRIMINATION COMMITTEE

The passage of the Married Persons Equality Act was a major development in the area of legal capacity in Namibia, the Committee on the Elimination of Discrimination against Women was told this morning by that country's Director- General of Women's Affairs in the Office of the President.

COMMITTEE ON ELIMINATION OF DISCRIMINATION AGAINST WOMEN BEGINS SEVENTEENTH SESSION

Five more countries had become parties to the Convention on Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination against Women, bringing the total number of ratifications to 160, the monitoring body for the implementation of that Convention was told this morning as it opened its seventeenth session.

Reproductive health was a right for both men and women and no one should be coerced about whether or not they should have children or on how they should space their children, the Commission on the Status of Women was told this morning as it discussed the follow-up to the Fourth World Conference on Women.
